As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m a decent Linux distro hopper. Based on some comments under my [daily](http://daily.dev) dev post, I decided to write down my story of how I started using Linux and how it has been my way for years.
All of it started in elementary school. At that time I was already into computers, and programming and liked to dig into my installation on Windows 98 and later with a better PC also Windows XP. At that time I met a boy who told me about some strange operating system where you can configure everything especially look and feel, which was for me as a teenager who wanted to express myself very important. When he showed it I was amazed at what he could do with his computer and the operating system, so I asked him for installation media (for the record it was Mandrake Linux). So with those I tried it, blew my computer, and installed Windows back since I completely missed what I tried to do.
After a few months, I was in a bookstore and came to the PC section when I saw a book about Linux and Live DVD so I bought it. The book was Knoppix Linux and thanks to this book I started my proper journey. On the internet, I started to look for more information, and I learned about more Linux distributions. Since Knoppix was mostly live distribution I wanted to try something more permanent and I found a book about the new Mandrake version with installation and software DVDs. With this, I was finally able to understand how to install and run on my computer. And I simply liked it, I felt that I had my computer under more control and I was able to customize it to my preferences.
And that’s it. From that moment I used Linux as my primary system (with some exceptions in my past jobs) and over time I moved from Mandrake (later Mandriva) to Ubuntu and then tried during years all major distributions.
And how do you meet the Linux?
